I spent week five and six of the One Room Challenge installing the new vanity light and mirror and doing a lot of touch up work with caulking and painting. Seeing as how I’ve never replaced a light fixture, I wasn’t entirely sure how it would go but it wasn’t bad at all!
Here is a little reminder of the vanity light and mirror before….
The most important thing about installing a new light fixture is making sure there is no power running to your wires! Even if the breaker is turned off, use a voltage tester to be 100% sure.
I removed the old light fixture and removed all the old wire caps. After that, I just followed the directions that came with the new light fixture by first installing the frame plate and then connecting and capping off the new wires. Then, just attach the new fixture to the screws on the frame plate!
I purchased the vanity light from Amazon. I loved the brass accents and I also loved the price! The Edison bulbs make the room not as bright as before but I’m okay with that.
I also went ahead and drilled the hole for the faucet. It is pretty tall so I wanted to have that in so I could decide where to hang the mirror.
The mirror is very heavy and unfortunately there wasn’t a stud where I needed to hang it. I found these drywall anchors at Walmart and they are supposed to hold up to 90 pounds! After putting one into the drywall it felt extremely secure and I don’t think it will be budging any time soon.
I got the mirror at Hobby Lobby and it has been on my dining room wall for several years! I’m not opposed to shopping for things in my own home. 😉 It definitely wanted to be in here the whole time…who knew?
There are only two weeks left and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t starting to stress a little. This bathroom has come a long way but I feel like there is still so much left to do! Next week I’ll be starting on the part of this project that I’ve been the most excited about…FLOORS! 🙂
