This One Room Challenge is flying by! I kicked it into high gear in the dreamy guest room for week 5 and managed to build the platform bed in three days! Trust me, I’m just as surprised as you are…it really escalated quickly. I won’t go into full detail about the build because think I may share the full plans in a future post in case someone wants to build their own!
I’ve been in search of the perfect stain for the bed and today I found it. This bedroom doesn’t get much natural light so the stain color can’t be too dark. I liked Golden Oak but it was still too warm. A friend suggested that I apply white stain first then Golden Oak on top. Let me tell you, it worked like a charm. The end result was like a neutral greige which was exactly what I was looking for. I also did a wood conditioner before I applied any stains. It really makes a difference. The slat wall behind the bed will be stained the same color and it’s right against the wallpaper so everything needs to blend well…wallpaper, piano paint, stain color.
Speaking of piano paint, I went and got seven, yes seven, different paint samples. What is wrong with me? LOL When I choose paint, I go way down the rabbit hole. I’ve never had to choose pink paint before. They are all such beautiful colors! Decisions, decisions.
After looking at the samples for a few days and putting it to a vote on Instagram, these are the final three contenders…Odessa Pink-Valspar, Romance-Sherwin-Williams, and Angelico-Behr. Honestly, they are all so similar. They all look one shade darker than the other but in the same pink color family.
This week I also measured the two skim coated walls and ordered the wallpaper. Here is a large-scale photo of the print I chose:
How gorgeous is that wallpaper? It’s called “Cradled in Clouds” from Photowall. I cannot wait to get it on the walls. It gives such dreamy guest room vibes. This will be my first time trying traditional paste wallpaper. I’ve heard others say it’s easier than peel and stick and I hope that’s actually true.
Things are starting to fall into place! I feel like I have more direction now that I’ve made some decisions but there is still so much to do. Stay tuned for week 6! 😉

I’d love a DIY post for the bed! I’ve been thinking about making my own as we’ll have some floorboards coming out that could be used for the side rails, and we could reuse our current slats, but I’ve no idea where to start on how to assemble it all!
That’s awesome! Yes, I am 100% going to do a full blog post on how to build the bed after this ORC is finished in a few weeks!
I can’t wait for a blog post on this bed. I actually purchased custom feet for this project a while ago for the exact same dupe. I’ve been too nervous and intimidated ever since to go for it. Please help!
